Wow, taking risks... my father a retired engineer would say that I take too many risks, but the ones he takes are calculated. No that's not a joke. I am in recovery from addiction and part of the 4th step is about looking at fears and uncertainty. I would rather play it safe than jeopardize my my comforts. However when in enough pain most people will change and hopefully to something better than laterally.

I have a degree in Computer Art but got 'disenchanted' with it. I do have a paint set and was making excuses to try and paint. Now I am ready and all I need it thinner. What changed was that it doesn't need to be good, and no one has to like it but me. And if I don't like it then on to the next one. I had a fear of trying to impress, even if it was myself.

To me there are wise risks (experience), calculated (using knowledge) and then just risks that can kill you. A person who hasn't ridden a bike in 40 years is relying more on a wise risk, whereas a student driver going out alone is a calculated risk.

Hope I typed something worth reading! Cheers!

I often find myself in the position of not taking risks. Why? Well first of all because it’s terrifies me. Second of all because even if I’m a miserable situation I know my situation, making something to change that will generate another situation, maybe even miserable that the one I’m currently in. So, I often prefer to stay and be unhappy.

It’s like a disease...being afraid of happiness, being afraid of making a few changes in your life. I resign myself to live a mediocre life because I’m afraid! There, I’ve said it! :P

But a month ago, something happened. I don’t know what…a click maybe and my brain said:” Come on, you silly girl take a chance! Start a new project!” So I did. And it’s going great…I mean I’m at the beginning of things and there’s nothing much to say, but it’s nice to feel happy after all those uncertain times. I’m not sure that it will be a success, but I’ll keep on trying, for it makes me happy.
So I was afraid and I still am (a little bit :P) but I try not to think about that. I’m trying to focus on the good stuff and visualize how my life will be with this project in it.

So, taking risks? Maybe the world “risk” is the one which scares us. It’s pretty scary, if you think about it. :) But if we are not happy with a situation a change is needed and we must do it. Maybe it will work, maybe it won’t, but at least at the end you can say:”Hey, I’ve tried”. :)
